Anders Bergmann,
Founder and Choirmaster
Anders Bergmann is the Founder and Choirmaster of The Saint Dunstan Schola, an independent sacred music ensemble and youth Chorister Guild serving the Tampa Bay area. A seasoned sacred music director with more than sixteen years of experience, Anders has dedicated his work to forming singers of all ages in the rich tradition of Gregorian chant, sacred polyphony, liturgical hymnody, and choral singing.
At The Saint Dunstan Schola, Anders directs an intergenerational ensemble in which adults and children rehearse and sing together. This model reflects his conviction that young choristers are formed most deeply when they are welcomed into a real musical community — one where they can learn by listening, imitating, participating, and singing alongside experienced adult musicians.
Known for his engaging and jovial teaching style, Anders brings together serious musical formation and a genuine delight in working with young singers. He believes that children are capable of real musical excellence when they are given patient instruction, high expectations, and the joy of belonging to something beautiful. Under his direction, choristers are formed not only in vocal technique and music literacy, but also in discipline, reverence, confidence, attentiveness, and love for the Church’s sacred musical heritage.
Anders has built and led vibrant music programs in multiple parishes, most notably transforming the sacred music ministry at Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church in Tampa and founding what would become The Saint Dunstan Schola and its Chorister Guild. His experience includes directing children’s choirs, training professional musicians, preparing ensembles for liturgical worship, and guiding singers through repertoire ranging from ancient chant to Renaissance polyphony and beyond.
A longtime resident of the Tampa Bay area and an alumnus of the University of Florida, Anders was first introduced to Gregorian chant and sacred polyphony through the Traditional Latin Mass at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ocala while attending university. That encounter became the beginning of a lasting devotion to the Church’s treasury of sacred music.
Anders previously served in various Episcopal church music programs as a voice section leader and associate choirmaster, and also directed the schola for the Traditional Latin Mass community at Incarnation Catholic Church in Tampa. An accomplished countertenor, he has sung in productions throughout Florida and brings a singer’s practical knowledge of vocal technique, ensemble work, and musical expression to his teaching and direction.
Through The Saint Dunstan Schola, Anders seeks to build a lasting choral foundation for Tampa Bay: one that forms young singers, supports adult musicians, preserves the Church’s sacred musical tradition, and hands on a love for beauty to the next generation.
When not teaching, rehearsing, or directing sacred music, Anders enjoys spending time with his wife, Katherine, and their growing family.
